You don’t need to fill every hour. Here are a few good places to start.
01 / ICELANDIC HORSES
Meet the locals.
The heart of our farm. Get to know Iceland’s wonderfully curious horses.
Arabær is a working horse farm. Ask your hosts about meeting the horses and current riding options. Our original farm site describes riding routes along the black sand and the Þjórsá river.
Riding is arranged separately and depends on current availability, experience and conditions. Never enter a paddock or feed a horse without your host’s guidance.
Black sand, sea air and the kind of views that make you stop the car.
Head to Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki for a taste of Iceland’s coastal villages. Or plan a longer drive along the south coast, with black-sand beaches and spectacular scenery.
Destination photography shows the wider Icelandic coast, not the view from your holiday home. Keep a safe distance from the sea and follow local warnings.
On clear winter nights, the sky might have something extraordinary in store.
Dark skies are one of rural Iceland’s pleasures. Between autumn and spring, a clear night and the right conditions can bring a northern-lights display. In summer, make the most of the long, light evenings.
Northern lights are a natural phenomenon and never guaranteed. Check weather and aurora forecasts before heading out.
Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss make memorable day trips. Return to your own kitchen, a comfortable sofa and the calm of the farm. Ask us for route advice and always plan for the weather.
